What is the parallel interface?

The parallel output is the standard interface for singleturn and multiturn absolute encoders.

These encoders provide the data output regarding the position in a “bit by bit” encoding (according to Gray or binary standards), according to the resolution of the device; parallel transmission requires indeed a wire for each bit, therefore for a higher resolution of the device there will be a higher complexity of the wiring. To reduce the number of wires, other forms of data transmission like the SSI serial interface or field bus protocols (PROFIBUS) have been implemented.
